IRLring Privacy Policy

IRLring is a proximity social app for adults (18+). It shows you people who are physically near you, and only while both of you are present. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how to delete it.
What we collect
- Account: email, first name, birthdate (to confirm you're 18+), password (stored by AWS Cognito, never by us in plain text).
- Profile: photo, bio, height, body type, gender, who you're interested in.
- Precise location, including in the background when you allow it: used to place you in Discovery (800 m), Approach (150 m) and Connection (30 m) rings and to hide you within 50 m of the home address you set. Other users never see your exact position — only which ring you're in.
- Motion/activity state (still, walking, driving) from your phone's sensors: used to hide you while you're travelling.
- IRLring hardware ring (Bluetooth): heartbeat detection, battery and connection state. We do not store heart-rate history.
- In-app actions: likes, saves, passes, matches, notes (3 per day, 100 characters), bug reports with a screenshot you choose to send.
- Diagnostics: app version, device model, OS version, anonymised event logs and crash data.
How we use it
To run the service described above, to keep users safe (blocking is permanent and mutual), to fix bugs, and to send you the notifications you enable. We do not sell personal data and do not use it for third-party advertising.
Where it lives
Amazon Web Services (us-east-1): Cognito, AppSync/DynamoDB, S3. Presence records expire automatically within 25 seconds of your last update. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Sharing
Other users see your profile only while you are in the same Connection ring. Service providers (AWS, Slack for internal bug triage) process data on our behalf. We disclose data when the law requires it.
Your controls
- Delete account (Settings → Delete Account) removes your profile, photo, matches, notes, presence and login immediately.
- Turn off background location, notifications or Bluetooth in your phone settings at any time; the app keeps working in a reduced mode.
- Email privacy@irlring.com for access, correction or deletion requests. Diagnostics and event logs are kept for 90 days.
Children
IRLring is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
